Apple is adopting a new URL shortening service for use with Ping: iTun.es. Apple has owned itun.es since 2006 which has been speculated to be used as an eventual URL shortening service. The new shortener is being used with Ping when users Tweet which song they liked or bought.
Apple added new features to iTunes — playlist creation and sharing — to enhance the social sharing aspect of Ping. The new features were added quietly and are part of Apple’s interest in making Ping more social.
