Reader Feedback Request: NAB Predictions

I don’t want to make predictions that I have no basis for (believe it or not), and I don’t really have a clue as to what to expect for NAB…so I thought instead of posting some of my own, maybe we can discuss it as a group, and see what we come up with…

So, having said that, what do you think we can expect at NAB?

I can say that I DON’T expect Leopard, iLife, iWork, or new Mac system updates. I DO expect a new version of Final Cut Pro…but other than that, I’m really not sure.

I would LIKE to see some kind of content upgrade to iTunes, getting us up to HD content, but I have no basis for that other than my own wishful thinking.

What do you think we’ll see? Anything other than Final Cut Pro, or is this going to be a minor NAB for Apple?

  1. I’d say new Final Cut too, but its pretty obvious, I think thats a for sure. I also believe iTunes will add HD content to their store. In addition I believe HD-DVD or Blu Ray Drives might find there way into that second Mac Pro slot.

I was also hoping for new Mac Pro enclosures, and new Cinema displays, but I don’t think it will be released at an event like this.

  2. I’m expecting Aperture 2.0 When I made that suggestion on the Apple Aperture forum, it was promptly deleted.

  3. Quad xeon machines will definitely be all over the booth, thus the need for the announcement prior to NAB. Also, recently the apple web store began making 4G fiber channel HBA’s available as add-ons to the Xserve RAID systems. Expect 4G ready RAID storage and applications that need to utilize the quad 4G HBA. Since Exavio (Ram acceleration for xSan) no longer exists, perhaps Apple has taken on the problem internally with DIMM slots in the RAIDs themselves for better LARGE media performance.

  4. I won’t be surprised if we see a full software update:

    Final Cut Pro

    Soundtrack Pro

    and Aperture

Maybe that was the point of releasing the Mac Pros early…to focus totally on software at NAB….

  5. I think the biggest thing, possibly bigger than the new final cut will be a combination of motion and shake into a product that can actually compete against after effects. As we know they have stopped developing shake, but yet they kept the entire shake team on staff….

  6. I wish Logic Pro would get a new version. There were rumors flowing arround that Logic Pro 8 is not going to see the release EVER. Rumors continued that apple is redesigning it’s flagship music production SW and will come with totaly new GUI and SPECS. We’ll let’s see what comes up next week|!
