I know that I wasn’t the only one hoping against hope that new MacBooks were going to be part of the Let Us Loop You In event earlier this week, but we’re just going to have to wait till the next event.
As usual, we’re already hearing rumors about the next event, which will certainly be about MacBooks. In article posted yesterday, DigiTimes sent out a strong message about new MacBook 2016 releases.
With Apple’s new ultra-thin 13- and 15-inch MacBooks to start shipping at the end of the second quarter, notebook brand vendors such as Asustek Computer, Dell and Lenovo have also prepared new ultra-thin notebooks for launch around the same time, hoping to catch up with the trend, according to sources from the upstream supply chain.
That’s an unequivocal a statement as any. They claim to source the information from “the upstream supply chain,” which is supposed to add to the veracity of the statement.
Additionally, DigiTimes said that the new MacBooks are similar to the 12-inch MacBook but thinner than the MacBook Air.
Which MacBook Is Right for You?
That made my ears point up like a hunting dog detecting prey.
Whether or not the information DigiTimes has released is accurate, one thing is for sure: we need a real refresh of the laptop line.
The iPhone may be Apple’s major earner, but Macs are not far behind. We’ve previously argued that Apple’s ecosystem is its secret weapon, and if the MacBook Airs are not given a new life, that weapon is likely to be less effective.
I do hope we get a new line of MacBooks – ultra-thin and yet powerful. Is it July yet?

What we want from Apple:
1) More fairly priced basic laptops.
2) Use of leading edge Intel chips in their higher end models.
What do they give us:
Thinner and lighter, slower, old technology, over-priced pretty laptops.
Some day, the market will force them to listen.
