Let’s face it: Apple products are not always easy on the pocket. What they are, though, are worthwhile investments. Apart from being sort of a “status symbol,” they really are tools that help make our life better.  There are so many cool things your iPhone can do for you.

Here are some of them:

1. Your iPhone can pair with your other Apple devices

Do you also use a Macbook, an iPad, or an Apple Watch? By pairing your iPhone with them, you can receive and even answer text messages on your other Apple devices.

Here’s how:

  • Go to Settings
  • Go to Phone or Messages
  • Choose “Allow calls on other devices” or Text Message Forwarding
  • Select the devices you’d like to pair this feature with

2. Your iPhone can give its life for you

The iPhone is one of the hottest phone models people love to steal. Or, in some cases, we, unfortunately, drop it or leave it behind somewhere, and someone else finds it.

If your phone is an extension of your body and your life, then we can be certain that there will be data and information on your phone that should remain confidential.

But what if someone tries to access your phone?

  • Go to Settings
  • Go to Touch ID & Passcode
  • Enter your passcode
  • Switch on “Erase data setting”

With this feature, after 10 failed passcode tries, your iPhone will delete all of its data.

3. Your iPhone can take dramatic selfies

How? By shooting them in slow-motion. This is very useful for bloggers or influencers who direct, shoot, and edit their own material. It also takes selfie-taking to a different level.

Take a slow-fie by:

  • Going to the Camera app
  • Choosing SLO-MO
  • Using the front camera
  • Hitting record

4. Your iPhone can capture fast moments on video

This is especially useful for journalists or even filmmakers who like to document using their iPhone.

Don’t let another moment escape you by:

  • Going to the Camera app
  • Keeping your thumb on the shutter button (like when you shoot Stories)
  • Simply removing your thumb from the button to stop filming

5. Your iPhone can give you the giant-TV experience

Have you heard the volume on the iPhone 11? I swear, it puts some Bluetooth speakers to shame!

But, in case you wish to lower the volume quickly:

  • Push the volume button on the left side of your iPhone
  • Drag your finger down the volume bar on the screen

6. Your iPhone can mute annoying “Reply All” email threads

Let’s face it: we may be working with people who send emails as if they are just chatting. And there are those who love to select “Reply All” even if the reply is relevant to only a select number of people in the thread.

Does the “Reply All” alert gives you a bad case of anxiety? We got you! Just:

  • Go to your Mail app
  • Go to your inbox
  • Choose the email thread you wish to silence and swipe right to left
  • Choose “More”
  • Choose “Mute”

To undo this, you can do the first three steps again and choose “Unmute.”

7. Your iPhone can give you live news or music with Siri’s help

Siri could be your best friend if you only knew how much she could do for you. For starters, if you want to listen to the radio, just:

  • Activate
  • Say, “Siri, play radio station (name)”

8. Your iPhone can give your eyes a break

I am the type who gets migraine attacks from looking at a bright screen for long periods of time. I often dim the screen to a level that’s comfortable for my eyes. But with iOS 13, the iPhone now has a Dark Mode version. This switches the background from white to black — cooler on the eyes!

Get your iPhone on the dark side by:

  • Going to Settings
  • Going to Display & Brightness
  • Choosing dark mode

Or if you’re already besties with Siri, simply say, “Siri, turn on Dark Mode.”

9. Your iPhone can track your menstrual cycle

This feature is heaven-sent is for women planning trips or for couples hoping to get pregnant. This feature is found on the Health app on iOS 13 (so if you have not updated it yet, do it now). You can log dates and make notes that will be helpful for your next visit to the gynecologist.

Track and record your red-letter days by:

  • Going to the Health app
  • Going to the Search tab on the bottom right corner
  • Choosing “Cycle Tracking”
  • Clicking on “Options” and begin to log data

10. Your iPhone can keep you from being disturbed by callers you don’t know

Introverts like me prefer to be sent a text message first and be asked if it’s a good time to call unless it’s a family member and an emergency. Receiving unscheduled calls is like receiving an unscheduled visit. It can be disconcerting and even unpleasant.

This is especially true when the number is unknown to you, what with the prevalence of prank calls.

What are we to do?

  • Go to Settings
  • Go to Phone
  • Switch on “Silence Unknown Callers”
