Using the Camera app on your iPhone is pretty easy. You not only get these cool camera features, but you also end up with pristine and clear shots. Sometimes you need to zoom in just a little bit to take shots of objects that are too far away. Once your shot gets too close, you’ll have to zoom out a little bit to get the right frame.
How to Zoom Out a Picture on iPhone
When you’re using the back camera of your iPhone, zooming in and out is easy breezy. While on the Camera app, simply put two fingers on the screen and slide them closer together to zoom in and farther apart to zoom out.
On the other hand, taking selfies is a whole different thing. If you’re using the iPhone 11 and later, you’re in luck. That means that your iPhone features a wide-angle lens for the front camera, too. Here’s a quick step-by-step guide on how to zoom in and out using your front camera on Photo Mode:
- On your iPhone, open the Camera app.
- Go to selfie mode. If the back camera is on, simply tap on the circular arrows at the bottom of the screen to switch.
- You will find diagonal arrows at the bottom center of your screen. Tap on this to zoom in and to zoom out.
- Another way to go is to place two fingers on the screen. Pinch them together to zoom in and slide them apart to zoom out, similar to how you would do it for the back camera.
Did you know that you can also use your Apple Watch to take selfies? This is perfect for when you’re taking photos using a tripod and your iPhone is not within arm’s reach. Simply turn the Digital Crown of your Apple Watch to zoom in and to zoom out while the Camera app is open.
However, zooming in and zooming out is not possible when you’re taking photos using Portrait Mode. This is because this feature has a specific method of focusing on the subject of the photo while blurring the background. As a result, this mode needs a certain amount of distance between the device and the subject to make the feature work. A zoom function would render this feature moot without adding distortion.
Once the photo has been taken, you can still zoom in and zoom out of the photo to take a closer look at the subject. Open the Photos app, select the photo, and simply use the two-finger method and you’ll be able to take a closer look at the subject in the photo.
