Command F on iPhone: How to Find Text

how to find text on iphon

One of the most common and useful commands on any computer is Control-F. You can use it in almost any app and it enables you to search for keywords and phrases easily. That way, you won’t have to scour through long posts and articles just to find specific topics and discussions. It also helps you save time instead of wasting it reading through everything.

On your iPhone, however, there is no such thing as a Control or Command button. On the other hand, there are ways for you to use this function to look for keywords when you’re using a browser. If you’re using the default Safari browser, there are actually two ways for you to search for keywords and phrases on a webpage.

The first way to use Command F on iPhone is to do the following:

  1. Open the Safari browser and go to a webpage.
  2. Tap on the Share icon located at the bottom of the screen. This icon looks like a box with an arrow pointing outwards. Tapping on this icon should bring up the Share Sheet.

  1. From the Share Sheet, you will find several shortcuts and functions. Look for and select the Find on Page option, which is represented by a magnifying glass icon.

  2. From the search bar, you will find left and right arrows. Tap on the arrow pointing to the right to go to the next word on the page. Tap on the arrow pointing to the left to go to the previous word on the page.

The other way to use this function on Safari is by this method:

  1. Open the Safari browser and go to a webpage.
  2. Tap on the Search Field located at the top of the screen. This is also where the address bar is located.
  3. Enter the word or phrase that you are looking for. Once you’re done, you’ll see a section below titled On This Page.

  1. Under the On This Page section, select “Find (word or phrase you’re looking for)”. You’ll be back on the same webpage with the keywords highlighted in yellow.
  2. Once you’re done searching, simply tap on Done located at the bottom right corner of the screen.

These two methods work not only on the iPhone but also on the iPad.

However, if you’re not a fan of Safari and you prefer using Google Chrome, there’s another way to use the Command F function. Here’s how it works:

  1. Open the Google Chrome app and go to a webpage.
  2. At the bottom right corner of the screen, tap on the three-dot icon. This should open a menu featuring several functions such as reloading the page and opening new tabs.
  3. Scroll down the list and tap the function called Find in Page. This is represented by a magnifying glass icon.
