Have you been having issues with your Apple Watch lately? Does it keep on restarting without warning at all? There are a number of reasons why your Apple Watch keeps rebooting. It might be due to corrupted third-party apps or failed updates of the OS. Hardware issues may also cause your Apple Watch to keep restarting.

Here are some ways you can try to pinpoint the issue and fix this problem.

Update your Apple Watch and your iPhone to the latest operating system.

Did you recently try to upgrade your Apple Watch or your iPhone to the latest iOS? Failure in doing this can cause your Apple Watch to suddenly restart on its own. Before you try upgrading both devices again, make sure to charge them first. In addition, establish a stable internet connection.

To update your iPhone, follow these simple steps:

  1. On your iPhone, open the Settings app.
  2. Tap on General.
  3. Select Software Update.
  4. Tap on Download and Install. This should initiate your iPhone’s iOS update.

To update your Apple Watch, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Turn on your Apple Watch.
  2. Connect it to Wi-Fi.
  3. Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch.
  4. Tap on General.
  5. Select Software Update.
  6. Tap on Download and Install. This should initiate your Apple Watch’s OS update.

You can also opt to update your Apple Watch using your paired iPhone by doing the following:

  1. Turn on your Apple Watch.
  2. Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
  3. Select My Watch.
  4. Tap on General.
  5. Select Software Update.
  6. Tap on Download and Install.

After both your Apple Watch and your paired iPhone have been upgraded to the latest OS, check to see if your Apple Watch still restarts on its own.

Quit all open apps and restart both your Apple Watch and your iPhone.

Sometimes, rebooting a device is all you need to refresh its entire system. The same concept applies to gadgets like your iPhone and Apple Watch. Try this method to see if it fixes the restarting problem.

How to restart your iPhone depends on the model that you’re using.

  1. If you’re using an iPhone 8 or earlier, restart your iPhone by pressing and holding the Lock/Unlock button on the right side of the device. Release the button when the Power Off slider appears on the screen. Slide the slider to turn off your iPhone. After five seconds, press and hold the Lock/Unlock button again. Release the button once the Apple logo appears on the screen.
  2. If you’re using an iPhone X or later, restart your iPhone by pressing and holding the Lock/Unlock button and one of the volume buttons at the same time. Release both buttons when the Power Off slider appears on the screen. Slide the slider to turn off your iPhone. After five seconds, press and hold the Lock/Unlock button again. Release the button once the Apple logo appears on the screen.

As for your Apple Watch, follow these steps to restart the device:

  1. Press and hold the side button of your Apple Watch. Release the button when the Power Off slider appears on the screen.
  2. Slide the slider to turn off your Apple Watch.
  3. After five seconds, press and hold the button until the Apple logo appears.

Free up memory space and remove unnecessary third-party apps.

Sometimes, your Apple Watch might have some third-party apps that are actually causing the problem. To fix this, remove the unnecessary apps from your Apple Watch. After deleting them from the device, see if it solves the issue.

Follow these steps to remove third-party apps from your Apple Watch:

  1. Press the Digital Crown to go to the Home Screen interface.
  2. If your apps are in Grid View, press and hold the app you want to delete until it jiggles and an “X” button appears on the corner. Tap on the “X” button to delete the app.
  3. If your apps are in List View, swipe left on the app that you want to remove. Tap on Delete.
  4. Once you’re done deleting the third-party apps, press the Digital Crown again to finish the process.

Unpair and re-pair your Apple Watch to your iPhone.

The wrong connection between your Apple Watch and your iPhone may also be causing the restarting issue. Try to unpair the devices then pair them again. After re-pairing both devices, check to see if this solves the restarting problem.

Here’s how to unpair the Apple Watch:

  1. Place your Apple Watch and your iPhone next or close to each other.
  2. On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app.
  3. Select My Watch.
  4. Tap on All Watches.
  5. Look for the paired Apple Watch. On its right side, tap on the exclamation mark.
  6. Select Unpair Apple Watch.

After this, do the following to re-pair the two devices again:

  1. Press and hold the side button of your Apple Watch until the Apple logo appears on the screen.
  2. Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone and select Start Pairing.
  3. Choose between setting up your Apple Watch as new or restoring it from your backup.
  4. Sign in using your Apple ID and create a passcode.
  5. Wait while your devices sync, then you’re good to go.
